Today we took a ferry over to the Asian side of the city.
There were flower sellers on the dock and we enjoyed wandering through the narrow streets.
We found the market street, all sorts of food shops with artful displays!
We crossed back to the Europe side and took the subway to the New District of Istanbul. We walked down Istiklal Street, a long, mostly pedestrian street full of large and small shops, restaurants, patisseries, gelato stands…..had to have one of those. The street was packed with people!
This street makes its way along the crest of a hill. At the Galata Tower, it runs downhill to the water and the Galata Bridge. The tower is a prominent feature of the New District skyline.
We crossed the bridge and headed back to the hotel to pack. We will visit the Topkapi Palace tomorrow morning.
Then we’ll board our ship, the Nautica, in the afternoon. It arrived in town this morning. (It’s the smaller one on the right.)
We set sail at 11:00pm tomorrow night and say goodbye to this wonderful city.
We’ll try to find internet connections along the way so I can add new posts but not all ports have great facilities.
And we may not want to drag the computer along with us every time we get off the ship!
Thanks for sharing your trip with us…it is fun to follow along.
